3 Year Old Kindergarten
Norfolk Street Child Care Centre offers a funded Three-Year-Old Integrated Kindergarten Program, providing children with a supportive and engaging introduction to kindergarten within the familiar environment of long day care.
Our Three-Year-Old Kindergarten Program is delivered by a qualified Early Childhood Teacher together with qualified educators. The kindergarten program operates during school terms, with long day care available before and after the kindergarten hours. Children participating in the program are required to attend a minimum of two days per week.
Three-year-old kindergarten is an important stage in a child’s learning and development. Our program is play-based, responsive to children’s individual interests and abilities, and designed to build confidence, curiosity and a strong sense of belonging.
The program supports children to develop and strengthen their:
- Social skills, including playing alongside and with others, sharing, taking turns and participating in group experiences
- Confidence and independence
- Emotional awareness and ability to express and regulate their feelings
- Communication, language and early literacy skills
- Early numeracy and problem-solving skills
- Creativity, imagination and curiosity
- Physical skills through active play and exploration
- Ability to form friendships and positive relationships
- Confidence to make choices, explore new ideas and participate in new experiences
Our educational program is guided by the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework and recognises that children learn best through meaningful relationships, play and exploration.
The Kindergarten Teacher and educators work closely with each child and family to develop strong, trusting relationships and provide a program that responds to each child’s strengths, interests and individual learning needs.
Key areas of focus include:
- Supporting children to develop a strong sense of identity and belonging
- Building resilience, confidence and independence
- Supporting emotional regulation and positive relationships
- Encouraging curiosity, creativity and a love of learning
- Developing communication, language and early literacy and numeracy skills
- Supporting children to participate confidently in group experiences
- Building the skills and foundations that will support their transition into Four-Year-Old Kindergarten
At NSCCC, we recognise that three-year-old kindergarten is about much more than preparing children for the next stage. It is an opportunity for children to build relationships, explore their world, develop confidence in themselves and experience the joy of learning alongside their peers.
